Alum stones are the best #zerowaste, long term alternative to deodorant. ? Growing up I didn’t pay much attention to what I was using on my body. I played a lot of sports so I would always carry whichever spray deodorant I found at the supermarket. Dove was the brand most of my friends used and it was not an antiperspirant (which I had heard was not good). The smell of it still reminds me of Saturdays mornings playing field hockey in Argentina. 10 years later my mum pays me a visit with a little “piedra de alumbre” (alum stone) she had gotten at her local bio shop in Spain. She said it could replace my deodorant. At that point I had long switched to a generic deodorant stick, which I hated cause it would irritate my skin for the first few minutes when I put it on. I got hooked to the stone right away. I use it at night, after my shower. Wet it and dab it under one armpit. Wet it again and do the other armpit. Then wet it again and dry it with my regular towel. I’ve had the same stone for 8 years ?? No itchiness, no smell, normal sweat which is ok with me, and no markings on clothes! Note❗️it is important to check your stone is potassium alum and not aluminum chlorohydrate. The first has a bigger molecule and sits on the skin, battling the bacteria that produces the bad smell, while the second one is a small molecule that can be absorbed into the skin.
